Reflecting on 2024

As the new year is fast approaching, I find myself reflecting on what 2024 brought. Here is a look back at some of its highlights, big and small.

My website got a refresh! I moved it to Shopify and redesigned everything – a practical upgrade I had considered for a while. Still lots to learn and improve, but it’s definitely been worth it.

I pruned an apple tree for the first time.

My greeting card range grew by seven new designs. It’s always hard to tell what sells, so I am particulary glad these have been well received.

I cut out lots of little boats and designed a tote bag with them, which I have been carrying around ever since.

More progress inside the house! I painted 14 window trims and 4 doors – only 3 more doors to go. Plus endless touch-ups, of course.

I had the honour to create the artwork for this year’s Cabot Trail Writers Festival and loved seeing it as a poster in local shops.

Some of my products got featured in the summer issue of InStore Magazine!

This year brought another collaboration with Square Love, resulting in this lovely lobster sponge cloth – a customer favourite at markets.

My first family portrait! A birthday gift for my little sister.

With a little help from Linus and our neighbour, I put in a garden this spring. And got to pick my own little bouquets as summer progressed! Not to mention harvesting tons of zucchini.

Participating in the Villager Puzzle’s Call for Artists was a fun creative challenge, even though my design didn’t make it into the final selection.

Designing a new logo and visual identity for the Baddeck Community Market was a wonderful opportunity to work locally. I love seeing my designs come to life across Baddeck on market days! Also, being a regular vendor again after doing only every other market for the past two years has been great.

A visit from my mom in the fall led to exploring Nova Scotia together and stopping by at some of my amazing stockists. It was a thrill to visit Holy Mackerel in Peggy’s Cove for the first time, and see the Peggy’s Cove Print displayed in the window at Whimsy & Wildthings in Lunenburg!

Finally creating my first calendar was a long-held goal, and it feels so satisfying to see it come to life and be well-received.

Venturing beyond Cape Breton to attend the Dartmouth Makers Winter Market for the first time marked a memorable end to the year. Such a vibrant market with a fantastic line-up of vendors!

Looking back, the year seems to have flown by. But putting together this review reminded me of how much actually happened in 2024. I am so grateful for the opportunities, connections, and growth this year brought. For 2025, I am hoping to expand and deepen my creative practice. Thank you for being part of the journey!

Here’s to a happy and healthy new year, my friends!
